Refarendum Greece

Greece referendum: Greeks in decisive vote
Millions of Greeks are voting in a crucial referendum on
whether to accept the terms of an international bailout.
Polling stations opened at 07:00 local time (04:00 GMT),
with the first results expected on Sunday evening.
The government has urged a "No" vote, but opponents warn
this could see Greece ejected from the eurozone.
Greeks appear evenly divided over the issue, according to
opinion polls. Turnout is expected to be high, after a frenetic
week of campaigning.
Leaders in the governing radical-left Syriza party have
criticised the bailout terms as humiliating. They say rejecting
the terms could give them more leverage in talks over the
country's massive debt.
"No one can ignore the determination of a people taking its
destiny in its own hands," Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said,
after casting his ballot on Sunday.
However, international creditors have warned that a "No"
vote could choke off vital funding for Greek banks and lead
to "Grexit - a chaotic departure from the common European
currency. The "Yes" campaign has framed the vote as a
referendum on Greek membership of the eurozone.
Supporters of both sides held rallies in Athens on Friday.
Banks stayed shut because of capital controls imposed after
the expiry of the current bailout programme.

Under a cloudless sky they are streaming into this Athens
polling station on a day that will shape the fate of Greece
and of Europe. It is the climax of the Greek debt story: when
this nation will accept or reject the entire eurozone strategy
of the past five years.
If Greeks say "Yes", it would be hard to see this government
staying put, having led the campaign against the measures.
If it is a "No", emergency funds to Greek banks would be in
jeopardy and eurozone leaders say a euro exit would be
hastened. That's simply scaremongering, says the Greek
government. But if negotiations do resume, there will be
plenty of bad blood.
This campaign has profoundly divided Greeks. Tassos,
voting "Yes", told me that Greece belongs in Europe. On the
other side, 83-year-old Anastasia told me she couldn't
survive on her meagre pension and was voting "for my
homeland".
Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis told local media on
Saturday that the EU had "no legal grounds" to throw Greece
out of the euro.
On the eve of the referendum, he accused Athens' creditors
of trying to sow fear around the vote. He told Spain's El
Mundo newspaper (in Spanish): "Why did they force us to
close the banks? To instil fear in people. And spreading fear
is called terrorism."
Mr Varoufakis said that the banks in Greece would reopen on
Tuesday whatever the outcome and that Greek Prime
Minister Alexis Tsipras would still reach an agreement with
creditors if the result was "No" in the referendum.
Meanwhile, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble,
one of Greece's harshest critics, suggested that if Greece
were to leave the eurozone, it might only be temporary.
"Whether with the euro or temporarily without it: only the
Greeks can answer this question," he told the German
newspaper Bild. "And it is clear that we will not leave the
people in the lurch."
Ballot paper question
"Must the agreement plan submitted by the European
Commission, the European Central Bank and the
International Monetary Fund to the Eurogroup of 25 June,
2015, and comprised of two parts which make up their joint
proposal, be accepted? The first document is titled "reforms
for the completion of the current programme and beyond"
and the second "Preliminary debt sustainability analysis".
Voters must check one of two boxes - "not approved/no" or,
below it, "approved/yes"

PRIDE Tanzania is finalising the process of self -
transformation into microfinance bank , thus enhancing its
capacity to serve better its customers as well as reaching
more the financially under served rural population.
This was said in Dar es Salaam by Pride Tanzania Senior
Operation Officer responsible for marketing , Mr Jumanne
Bundala , in the ongoing 39 th Dar es Salaam International
Trade Fair (DITF ).
“We have already made application for licence to the Bank
of Tanzania (BoT) with hope of kick - starting before the end
of the year , ” he said, adding that all other processes and
preliminary requirements by the regulator for
establishment of the microfinance banking institution have
been met .
He said arrangements of for selling shares will primarily
done internally involving staff , customers and donors to be
followed by the process of listing at the Dar es Salaam
Stock Exchange (DSE ) .
He said transformation aims at building necessary capacity
for Pride Tanzania to serve as many citizens as possible
so that they effectively participate in raising their
household incomes .
Since establishment in 1993 , Pride Tanzania which offered
small credits with affordable conditions has developed
into a big institution with about 71 branches countrywide.
He said the institution has currently over 150, 000
customers with a network of 71 branches countrywide.
The greater number of customers is entrepreneurs
empowered through loans by Pride Tanzania .
At the ongoing trade fair , a total of 65 entrepreneurs from
different parts of the country are showcasing products
mostly from handmade.
The Tanzanian business community has for years been
confronted by among other things bureaucracies in the
legal and regulatory framework , poor infrastructure,
inadequate business skills and limited access to finance .
These include creating an environment that is conducive
for business promoting the use of research and
development output and propagation of entrepreneurial
attitudes and skills .
With training, Pride Tanzania feels the Small and Medium
Enterprises (SME) would be reinforced to play a central
role in the efforts to make the private sector the engine of
economic growth

Barack Obama set to get ‘ kifimbo ’
from Tanzania
US President Barack Obama will soon receive a ‘ leadership
wand ’ similar to the one which was used by Tanzania’ s
first president , Mwalimu Julius Nyerere , from the same
sculptor who made the latter ’ s banter.
Speaking in Arusha, renowned artist , sculptor and cultural
scientist , Mr Athuman Omar Mwariko, said he has already
fashioned out a special wand for the American president
and was awaiting response from the White House .
Apparently , the artist has already dispatched an official
message to Washington DC regarding the proposed gift to
the leader .
Mr Mwariko’ s rare ‘ leadership wands ’ don’ t come often . So
far , there are only four of them ; the first was made for the
President of Tanganyika, Julius Nyerere in the early 1960s ,
the second was again sculptured for the same leader , but
this time as President of Tanzania , in 1985 shortly before
he retired .
The third leadership wand was made only this month and
it was presented to the current Tanzanian President,
Jakaya Kikwete in Arusha over the weekend.
Mr Mwariko presented the banter to the head of state
during the International Albinism Awareness Day , which
was held at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium here .
President Kikwete is the only leader after Mwalimu
Nyerere to get the coveted ‘ leadership wand’ from the
artist . Mwalimu ’ s stick , popularly known in Kiswahili as
‘ kifimbo ’ , has always been a source of awe , speculation
and rumours among the people , with some believing that
it has ‘ magical ’ powers , something which Mr Mwariko
vehemently refutes .
Born in 1949 , Mwariko, who is a Havard Scholar, is also
the man behind the design , formulation and the current
shape for the national emblem , the ‘ Coat of Arms , ’ which
he reportedly moulded from clay during his time at
Makerere School of Art in Uganda , back in the 1960s .
The Moshi (Kilimanjaro ) born artist was declared ‘ East
Africa’ s Star , ’ by the Queen of England in 1972 . His track
record as far as brushing shoulders with eminent persons
is a jaw - dropping one .
During the interview in Arusha , he was equipped with a
heap of letters and certificates from former US presidents
Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan ; former United Kingdom
Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill, Queen Elizabeth II ,
Kenya ’ s founding president , Mzee Jomo Kenyatta ,
Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia and of course , Mwalimu
Nyerere .
He attended the Fine Art School of Makerere University in
Uganda back in the 1960s and says that was the time
when he designed the ‘ Coat of Arms’ and secretly sneaked
it to Mwalimu Nyerere . Afterwards , he received training in
Nigeria , Congo - Brazzaville , UK and Havard (US ).
The artist is among the 32 aspirants who want to vie for
the Tanzanian presidency in the forthcoming October 2015
general elections on Chama Cha Mapinduzi ( CCM ) ticket
