From ANN, January 20, 2016: Mountain View College’s (MVC) School of Nursing in Bukidnon, Philippines, was recognized as the seventh top nursing school in the nation with its 91.89% passing rate in the recent Nursing Licensure Exam (NLE) administered in December 2015.
According to the national exam results released January 8, 2016, 68 out of the school’s 74 examinees passed. Five of MVC’s nursing graduates placed among the top: Hazel Jean M. Aralan and Chrysthia Lorecyl A. Sistoso (tie for 2nd), Ronette May T. Lamputi (3rd), Cherry Faith M. Labtang (6th) and Glenice Mae A. Nebato (7th).
Leonila S. Reyno, dean for the MVC School of Nursing, shared that although the school had previously attained higher passing rates in the NLE, this year’s results showed more MVC nursing board passers in the top ten.
MVC regularly offers exam reviews on campus prior to the twice yearly test. In 2015 the two-day May exam included a Sabbath. As a result, MVC students chose to take the later exam in November and thus had a six-month review period on campus.
One unique feature of the daily review sessions was the feature on Adventist fundamental doctrine studies.”We made sure that these spiritual topics were discussed daily and every Sabbath noon, we would gather for fasting and prayer,” added Reyno.
When asked about other preparation for the test, Reyno described a ceremony of humility which is similar to the Adventist church’s communion service and a special prayer before the examinees headed to the exam center in Cagayan de Oro city.
“My prayer is for them to be effective medical missionaries wherever they serve God and that they will continue to uphold their school’s philosophy,” said Reyno. This philosophy holds Jesus Christ as the true model of excellence.
The school was founded by Andrew N. Nelson and was established in 1953. One hundred forty-five students were enrolled under the nursing program in the first semester of 2015.
Originally envisioned to serve the educational needs of the young people in the South Philippines, it has now expanded its service to students from other parts of the Philippines, southeast Asia and beyond.
