IEBC Leaves Raila Odinga Guessing Over Controversial Strategic Plan
Raila Odinga and his Coalition
for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) were on Thursday, July 16, 2015 left
guessing on whether the Independent Electoral
and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will withdraw the controversial
strategic plan or not.
This was after Raila led other party officials to a meeting with Isaac Hassan, the IEBC chairman
The meeting had followed a similar one
in which CORD leaders met Ezra Chiloba, the IEBC’s chief executive
officer and other commissioners earlier the same day.
Even after the day long series of
meetings, Isaac Hassan only promised Raila’s party a conclusive answer
after consulting other commissioners.
“The Chairman promised to consult with his fellow Commissioners regarding these and other issues raised before reverting with a conclusive way forward,” read a statement posted on Raila’s website.
The opposition leaders have repeatedly blamed the electoral body for launching its 2015-17 strategic plan without consulting it, and has even threatened to boycott the 2017 elections unless the plan is withdrawn.
According to the statement posted on
Raila’s website, the leaders presented their complaints about the
strategic plan to Isaac Hassan.
