Swimming legend urges Tanzania to nurse talents

She said this during a special swimming clinic organised by Dar Swim Club at the Dar es Salaam International Academy (DIA) over the weekend.
Penny said there is huge improvement of swimmers as contrasted to the past that inspired her. “This is second time to train Dar Swim Club swimmers and coaches, I was here last year, I met swimmers who attended my clinic, I am very proud to see they have improved,” said Penny.
She said many swimmers have won various medals in competitions within and outside the country.
“As a teacher, you have to follow up to your students developments; I know they have done well abroad and invitational Taliss championship to win 94 medals,”
“This is module two of my previous clinic whereby we are starting with new program and on how we can improve the swimmers’ standards with the modern training,” she said.
Penny believes that Tanzania will excel in both Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World championship if efforts would be taken to develop swimmers.
“I am extremely satisfied with the standard shown by young swimmers, they have improved and they will be world stars like what I did, the only secret is to make efforts in training and discipline,” she said.
Dar Swim Club secretary general Inviolata Itatiro thanked Penny for accepting their invitation and they real see the bright future of their swimmers.
Itatiro said their intention is to see the game is developed in the country and become the popular sport and each Tanzanian practice it.
“We have seen other sports are getting exposure and big support, but internationally, they are not doing well, we need support from government and stakeholders that will make the game to have at least one community pool that would be used in training,” she said.
The club’s head coach, Kanisi Mabena said Penny has made them new and advanced in their career and their task ahead is to reflect the teachings into best performances.
Mabena said they have got something new in coaching and believe they will take the game into new heights.
“Our technical officials appreciate the teachings, we have been impressed and thanks the management of the club to give us the memorable time in the game, our task is to see all Tanzanians can swim, I invite them to join our us,” said Mabena.
